BEIJING, China - Over 1,400 athletes ages 16-19 representing 182 countries are set to compete at the 2006 IAAF World Junior Championships August 15-20 in Beijing at the Chaoyang Sport Centre.
The 11th edition of the IAAF World Junior Championships will be available on the World Championships Sports Network (WCSN), which will Webcast it via live Video on Demand at www.wcsn.com.
Team USA topped the medal count at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy and plans to have another powerful team in Beijing. The U.S. won 19 medals overall, 13 of them gold, ahead of medals runner-up Russia, who had 18 total medals including seven gold.
Eighty-two of the top male and female junior athletes were selected at the 2006 Finish Line USA Junior Track & Field Championships. 2006 USA Junior Outdoor 1,500m champion A.J. Acosta and 2006 USA Junior Outdoor 100m champion Alexandria Anderson have been selected as team captains by their teammates.
