Running: GoLite Footwear Unveils New Trail Running Shoes at 2006 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market

New Footwear Line Combines Cutting-Edge Technology and Innovative Design

SALT LAKE CITY -- GoLite Footwear today unveiled its new trail running shoe line from the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, Utah. The award-winning Timberland Invention Factory (iF) engineered the new performance footwear line from the ground up solely for the distinct, demanding nature of uneven trails. The conventional process of producing a running shoe has been abandoned and GoLite Footwear is turning the shoe upside-down, literally, with a "Soft Against the Ground" concept that addresses a need specific to trail runners: whole body stability.

"We believe the GoLite® shoe is a revolutionary tool that will change the way we view running on trails. It is not a repurposed road-running shoe or a pared down hiking boot but rather a completely different shoe dedicated solely to trail running," said Bill Dodge, General Manager for GoLite Footwear. "This project has been a two year commitment and has resulted in a footwear line that offers uncompromised performance and protection in the lightest weight shoe possible."

Features and Benefits

Inspired by the sport of sky running, or running at altitude, GoLite introduces a package of technological advancements that promises to rewrite the specifications of trail running shoes. Metamorphic suspension system stabilizes the foot strike by enveloping trail landscape that varies from step to step. This evens out the plane and creates a more consistent, level path and is available in two variations -- Isomorphic Suspension(TM) system and Amorphic Suspension(TM) system.

  • The patent-pending Isomorphic Suspension(TM) system is designed specifically for vertically rugged terrain above the timberline. When met with uneven terrain, the independent springs, or Trail Claws, each react with their own level of displacement. By isolating the uplift, Trail Claws fill the space created by bumpy ground, rather than balancing the foot against a traditional flat and wobbly outsole plate. The result is improved stability on the trail.
  • Amorphic Suspension(TM) system is built directly inside of the shoe for noticeably enhanced stability and comfort. Internal 'memory foam' encases uneven trail elements much like how a body-forming mattress works and actually envelop protruding rocks or roots, becoming one with the trail. The result is heightened traction, improved stability, and an incredibly soft feeling under foot.
  • NEOform(TM) seamless upper is a revolutionary sculpted outer casing that protects the foot from bruises and scratches caused by unforeseen obstacles. This ultra-light foam does not absorb water and increases comfort over time.
  • PreciseFit(TM) system is a patent-pending adjustable insole system that can be individually customized for a better fit.

In May 2006, Timberland acquired certain assets of GoLite LLC, including trademarks. GoLite Footwear is managed out of Stratham, New Hampshire while GoLite® apparel, equipment and accessories will continue to be led by GoLite founders Demetri and Kimberly Coupounas, operating as an independent company out of their headquarters in Boulder, Colorado.

The market launch for the new line of GoLite® footwear is slated for Spring 2007, with distribution targeted at specialty outdoor and running shops. MSRP ranges from $85 to $115.

About GoLite Footwear
Designed and developed by a specialized team within the award-winning Timberland Invention Factory, the new GoLite® footwear line combines three key ingredients: the Invention Factory's focus on innovation and problem- solving, GoLite's cutting edge lightweight design ethic and long-standing commitment to the trail running category, and The Timberland Company's strong footwear development capabilities. The result is a groundbreaking new footwear formula that challenges the way outdoor athletes and the industry think about trail running shoes.
