Athletics: Past Champions Return for America's Finest City Half Marathon

SAN DIEGO - (August 16, 2006) - The 29th edition of the America's Finest City Half Marathon (AFC) will feature past champions Tatiana Chulakh of Russia and Jonathan Ndambuki of Kenya. The half-marathon and accompanying 5K are set for Sunday, August 20. Last year, Chulakh won the women's division in 1:13:38, and Ndambuki won the men's division in 1:03:16 back in 1998. Also entered are Kenyans Abraham Kosgei and Samuel Kosgei who recently recorded personal bests at the distance (1:02:18 and 1:02:45, respectively). The AFC course records are 1:02:24 for the men and 1:10:37 for the women. Competitors in the half-marathon will vie for $11,000 in prize money and bonuses. A sold-out field of 7,000 runners is expected to participate on the scenic point-to-point course which takes runners from Cabrillo National Monument to historic Balboa Park.
