August 20th 2006, BEIJING - Canada finished fourth Sunday in the men’s 4X100 relay to conclude the 182-coutnry world junior track and field championships.
Jamaica won the gold medal in a meet record 39.05 seconds with the U.S., second in 39.21 and Britain third in 39.24.
The Canadians, running out of lane one, were fourth in 39.78 with Justyn Warner of Markham, Ont., Oluseyi Smith of Ottawa, Andrew Dargie of Calgary and Brian Barnett of Edmonton.
‘’We’re a bit disappointed,’’ said Smith. ‘’We were hoping to lower the national junior record again as we did in the semis. Being in lane one, the first exchange is on a curb and Justyn and I had a shaky hand-off. But from there on in we had a solid race. ’’
Warner and Barnett won Canada’s two medals at this week’s championships earning silver in the 100 and 200 metre sprints respectively.
