Athletics: Robinson named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Khadevis Robinson has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after running the second leg of the 4x800m relay that broke the American record at the Memorial Van Damme, the penultimate leg of the 2006 IAAF Golden League, in Brussels, Belgium.

A two-time U.S. Outdoor champion, Robinson ran 1 minute 44.03 seconds, the fastest split of the race, on the second leg to help his 4x800m team of Jebreh Harris (1:47.05), Sam Burley (1:46.05) and David Krummenacker (1:45.69) finish second in 7:02.82 behind the Kenyan team that ran 7:02.43 to set the new world record. The U.S. quartet crushed the previous American record of 7:06.5, set by the Santa Monica Track Club in 1986 and was also under the previous world mark of 7:03.89, run by Great Britain in 1982.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
