Triathlon: Monaco Ironman 70.3 by Cal Investments Limited – statistics about a sport that is anything than static

What is the total number of participants in the second edition of the Monaco Ironman 70.3 presented by CAL Investments Limited, and what is the average age? How many nationalities will be represented in this race covering 70.3 miles? And how many years separate the youngest from the oldest participant? Find the answers here.

The second edition of the Monaco Ironman 70.3 presented by CAL Investments Limited attracts 612 athletes. They will swim 1.9km, cycle 90km, and run a half marathon of 21.1km along the world’s most famous Formula one track. These 612 triathletes come from 40 different Nations, making the Monaco Ironman 70.3 one of the most international races worldwide.

French countrymen represent the largest populated group: 20% of the athletes come from the Country of the Marseillaise, leaving 80% for the international field. 15% come from the United Kingdom; German athletes (12%) are the third strongest group, followed by Italy (8%) and USA (7%).

The Monaco Ironman 70.3 presented by CAL Investments Limited has more female participants (13%) than the average Ironman race, and the participation of PROs is relatively strong, too (6,9% in Monaco compared to 2% on the average).

Nevertheless, the Age Groupers compose that largest population. And in an Ironman, age does not matter: 49 years of difference separate the youngest athlete – 19 years of age – from the oldest iron man (68 years old)!

For 201 of the athletes, this race is their first Ironman. And they have chosen a good race to start with: 100 qualifying slots for the Ironman 70.3 World Championship 2006 in Clearwater/Florida AND 30 slots for the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona/Hawaii on October 13th 2007 are there to be taken!

The race starts with the SWIM at 7h00 on Sunday 3rd of September on the Larvotto beaches. DJs and Speakers will keep the public informed. The first athlete is expected back from the BIKE course at 10h15, and the RUN will take the athletes through the Principality. The grandstands on the Avenue de Monte Carlo are open to the public. The Winner is expected around at 11h30, the last Finisher at 15h30.
