Multisport: More Than 3,000 Fun Runners And Celebrities Return To London’s Fittest Borough To Take Part In The World’s Largest Duathlon

Thousands of spectators are expected to line the closed roads of Richmond Park, on Sunday 17th September, cheering on more than 3,000 celebrities and fun runners as they compete in the world’s largest Duathlon in distances that range to cater for all.

This run-bike-run event, which offers the perfect entry into the exhilarating world of triathlon, is a unique opportunity for novices to compete alongside some of the best club athletes in the sport. Richmond Park also boasts the largest open space in London and promises a stunning setting, buzzing atmosphere and an experience never to forget.

London’s acclaimed ‘fittest borough’ Richmond (according to the Evening Standard) welcomes the run-bike-run event with the clash of the titans all over again as BBC presenter Craig Doyle is set to take on Sky Sports Soccer AM presenter Tim Lovejoy. Tim Lovejoy will be racing in aid of Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre, the official charity of the London Duathlon.

The London Triathlon Ltd., owners of The Michelob ULTRA London Triathlon – the world’s largest triathlon – and the stunning Blenheim Triathlon, created The London Duathlon to keep up with the massive growth of the sport whilst maintaining the objective to offer top class events that are achievable by everyone.

Event Director Nick Rusling commented: “The London Duathlon offers an accessible entry into the great sport of triathlon, and as the world’s biggest duathlon returns for its second year, provides atmosphere and a sense of occasion for all involved”.

Marie McQuade, Head of Fundraising at Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres commented: "Maggie's Centres are delighted to be involved with the London Duathlon again following on from the success of its inaugural year. We know those entered in this event have set themselves a hard challenge but their efforts will result in Maggie's being able to offer psychological and emotional support to anybody affected by cancer."

The London Duathlon will take place entirely within Richmond Park with both individual athletes and teams participating. Entry to watch the London Duathlon is free and there will be athletes setting off throughout the day, guaranteeing a fantastic atmosphere at this great spectator sport. Refreshments, event merchandise and official retailers will all be on site to cater for everyone as part of the Competitors’ Village and Children’s Village all based at Roehampton Gate.

Richmond Park Golf Club has also closed both its 18-hole courses for the day of the race in order to support the event and thus raise the maximum amount of money for the event charity.
