Athletics: Gay Named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS- Tyson Gay has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's 200 meters and finishing third in the men's 100 meters over the weekend at the IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany.

Enjoying a career-making season, Tyson Gay broke the meet record in the men's 200 meters on Sunday, running a personal-best time of 19.68 seconds, which equals the fourth-fastest time in history. He now owns four of the top five fastest men's 200m times in the world this year. On Saturday, Gay was third in the men's 100 meters in 9.92 seconds, which is the third-fastest time of his career.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
