Athletics: Brooks Canada Marathon Project Announcement

Today Brooks is pleased to announce that Matt McInnes from Toronto is the first athlete to join the BCMP. Matt will make his debut in the Toronto Scotiabank Half Marathon on Sunday, September 24, 2006.

Matt has been training in the concept of the Project since the beginning of the year.

As President of Brooks Canada, Mike Dyon said, "It does take one athlete to make the first move when it comes to a new venture. It is hoped that once more potential marathoners understand the program and are selected to join the group that the synergy and benefits of training together for the marathon will begin to show some results".

The Brooks Canada Marathon Project objective is to assist those men & women with POTENTIAL, SINCERE INTEREST and PASSION to achieve their PERSONAL GOAL of representing CANADA in the MARATHON EVENT at either the OLYMPIC GAMES or WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP within 2-6 years. This commitment will be in the range of $1.5 Million or more over 6 years.

In early September Martin Goulet, Chief High Performance Officer for Athletics Canada said, "As a long time national team and Olympic distance running coach I was thrilled to learn about this new privately sponsored Brooks Canada Marathon Project when briefed about it. Our sport certainly needs new innovative ways to attract support for our Canadian athletes. We enthusiastically endorse the concept and approach especially knowing that under the strong leadership of coach Cameron, this initiative will harmoniously complement what Athletics Canada is doing in the global area of distance running."

Brooks hopes to announce other potential members in the near future.
