Join Olympic gold medalist Frank Shorter and John "the Penguin" Bingham for a training run Sept. 28
PHOENIX, Ariz., Sept. 25, 2006 -- The fourth annual P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & ˝ Marathon is just over four months away -- January 14, 2007 -- and a Kick Off Party and Training Run is being held on Thurs., Sept. 28 to help get runners and walkers motivated.
Hosted by Salt River Project's (SRP) EarthWise Energy, the party is set for Thurs., Sept. 28 from 5-8:00 pm. at Arizona Falls, on Indian School Road and 56th Street. Guests will enjoy live music, a mini-Expo, and refreshments before hitting the canals for a 3.5-mile training run with Olympic gold and silver medalist Frank Shorter and Runner's World columnist John "the Penguin" Bingham. The event is free and open to the public, including those who are already registered for the race, and those who would like to register or simply want to learn more about the musical marathon.
Registration fees for P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona increase after Sept. 15, but organizers will roll back the prices by $10 (back down to $90 for the marathon/$65 for the half), for one day only, at the Kick Off party. The first 100 people who register will also receive a free training T-shirt.

Who: Runners, aspiring runners, walkers, volunteers, kids -- anyone who is already registered, wants to register or is interested in learning more about P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona and the Phoenix Children's Hospital Kids Rock. Free and open to the public.
- Save $10 off the entry price for the marathon or half marathon. The first 100 people to register will receive a free training T-shirt.
- At 5:45 p.m. Olympic gold medalist Frank Shorter and Runner's World columnist John "the Penguin" Bingham will give a short motivational talk followed by a 3.5-mile training run and walk along the canals. Registration will be open from 5-7:30 pm.
- 6:30 p.m. - Commemorative photo opportunity with Frank Shorter at the SRP Booth.
- 7:30 p.m. - Prizes raffled from SRP, P.F. Chang's and more. Must be present to win.
- Live music and refreshments provided by P.F. Chang's China Bistro, NYPD Pizza and Michelob Ultra.
- Representatives from local charities, including Team In Training and Phoenix Children's Hospital's Miracles in Motion, will be on-hand to provide information about their training programs for the marathon and half marathon.
