Running: Chris Carmichael Coaches Dean Karnazes Through North Face Endurance 50

Follow Chris Carmichael as he guides ultramarathoner Dean Karnazes through The North Face Endurance 50 (50 marathons in 50 States in 50 days) at TrainRight.com

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – This week, ultra runner Dean Karnazes is two weeks into his quest to run 50 marathons in 50 States in 50 consecutive days. Helping him accomplish this super human feat of endurance is a training plan developed by Chris Carmichael, coach to 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, and daily guidance from Carmichael Training Systems’ Pro Coach Jason Koop. And nowhere else will you find in-depth coverage of Karnazes’s every move like you can at Carmichael Training Systems’s website www.trainright.com.

As Karnazes crisscrosses the United States, Carmichael Training Systems is providing daily behind-the-scenes reports, plus audio and video clips of the runner from the coaches’ perspective. Each day, Carmichael and Coach Koop explain their take on Karnazes’ performance, health, and attitude, as well as his prospects for the next day’s run. They break down the science behind Karnazes’s body and performance, and explain how his cardiovascular systems, and his diet, and his recovery strategy enable him to run a marathon every day.

In a first of its kind, Chris Carmichael is also conducting research on Karnazes during the The North Face Endurance 50. A few times a week, Karnazes provides a blood and urine sample that Carmichael Training Systems overnights to a lab in Colorado Springs for immediate testing. Then lab delivers the results to Koop and Karnazes on the road 48 hours later. Armed with this data, Coach Koop and Carmichael will tweak Karnazes’s diet, hydration regimen, and recovery plans to insure that his body stays in top shape.

The challenge ends at the ING New York City Marathon on November 5th. There, Chris Carmichael will meet up with two of his most accomplished athletes, Dean Karnazes and Lance Armstrong, as they cross the finish line. Karnazes will have run 50 marathons, while Armstrong will have completed his first since retiring from professional cycling.
