Athletics: 2006 USATF National Disability 5 km Cross Country Championships

KINGS PARK, New York - 2006 USATF National Disability 5 km Cross Country Championships are set for this Sunday, October 1 at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park. The competition will be conducted on "runner-friendly" trails.

As a cooperative venture between USATF Long Island and the USATF Committee on Athletics for the Disabled (USATF COAD), the 2006 USATF National Disability 5 km Cross Country Championships offers a competitive opportunity for athletes with disabilities.

The race will feature awards to the overall male and female finishers, Junior Division (ages 15 and under), Masters Division (ages 40 and over) and the first three male and first three female athletes in each of the following divisions:

Above knee amputees 
Below knee amputees 
Double amputees 
Sight impaired (with sighted guide) 
Sight impaired (without assistance) 
Cerebral Palsy 
Special Needs Athletes 
Developmentally disabled athletes 
Les Autres 

The goal of USATF COAD is to link local programs for athletes with disabilities with their local USATF Association in an effort to provide access to training, facilities, and competition for the athletes.
