October 5th 2006, OTTAWA - The TransCanada 10K Championships, taking place this Saturday October 7th in Ottawa, will also play host to the TIMEX National Road Race Series Final. Developed in 1989 in conjunction with the provincial branch associations of Athletics Canada, the Timex Road Race Series holds over 110 races with in excess of 140,000 participants per year. It is Canada's only National Road Race Series, encompassing nine series in all provinces.
The TransCanada 10K Championships and Run with the Champions 10K, including the Timex Road Race Series final takes place this Saturday October 7th. The race will start at 3:30 p.m. in front of the new Canadian War Museum. A special ceremony will precede the race, honouring Olympian Émilie Mondor who died tragically on September 9th. Émilie was registered to race this weekend, continuing her comeback from career-threatening injuries.
The event will be unique as elite athletes will be competing for a Canadian title while running in the same race as the mass participants in the Run with the Champions 10K. As well as crowning a male and female Canadian Champion, 11 Age Category champions will be recognized.
The Run with the Champions 10K is still accepting mass participation registrations, to register please visit www.transcanada10km.ca. Walk-up registrations will be welcome on Saturday. All participants will receive a number of freebies, including a TIMEX pedometer.
