U.S. Women to Defend Title
The USA National 100K Team will compete at the IAU 100K World Cup on Sunday, October 8 in Misari, South Korea. The U.S. women will defend their 2005 championship title. Team USA won the women's crown with a combined time of 24 hours, 46 minutes, 49 seconds to France's 25:01:07 (the top three finishers scored for each team). In third place was Japan in 25:17:40. With three team members returning from last year's team, the U.S. women are favored again to win the gold.
Competitors will race on a 10 kilometer / 6.2 mile loop course that, according to organizers, "is free of bumps and hills in order for racers to set personal bests." Team USA includes athletes from ten states who have a combined 34 years experience in World Cup competition. Several athletes originally named to the team have declined their spots due to work schedules, prior racing commitments or injury.
