Athletics: Solomon Bushendich and Rose Cheruiyot win 31st ING Amsterdam Marathon

Solomon Bushendich won the 31st edition of the ING Amsterdam Marathon in his debut on the marathon on Sunday 15 October. In a time of 2.08.52 the Kenyan athlete beat his fellow countryman Bernard Barmasai in unheard-of thrilling final with just 2 seconds in windy Amsterdam (The Netherlands). The difference between this Kenyan couple and number three Getuli Bayo form Tanzania was ample considering his 2.10.47. The favourites Vanderlei Lima (Brasil, 2.11.36 5th), Fabiano Joseph (Tanzania, 2.13.24 10th) and Patrick Ivuti (Kenya, 2.14.23 11th) performed not good enough to compete for the prizes of honour. Strikingly was the achievement of Koen Raymaekers. His finished in a new personal record as the first Dutchman (16th in 2.15.50), an improvement of almost 8 minutes comparing with his best time.

Kenyan athlete Rose Cheruiyot proved her role as number one favourite in the ladies race. She won convincingly in 2.28.26. Helena Loshanyang surprised with her second place in a good personal record of 2.28.51 (was 2.34.43). Leila Aman from Ethiopia completed the stage of honour in a time of 2.29.32). Best lady from The Netherlands was Ingrid Prigge (2.41.06, 10th).
