Eastler, Vaill win One Hour Race Walk Championships

Two-time U.S. 20 km Race Walk champion Kevin Eastler and three-time U.S. 10 km Race Walk champion Teresa Vaill were the overall men's and women's champions Sunday at the 2006 USA One Hour Race Walk Championships in Waltham, Mass.

Thirty-five athletes were on hand, vying for national titles in the One Hour open, junior and age-group Masters Race Walk Championships.

The American record holder in the 30 km race walk, Eastler covered 13,584 meters in one hour for the win over three-time Olympian Curt Clausen who took second with 12,850m. Mike Kazmierczak won the junior division and was third overall, covering 12,204m. Jack Starr won the master's M75 division, setting a pending age-group record with his distance of 9,197m.

A 2004 Olympian, Vaill handily outdistanced the pack to claim the overall and masters W40 victory after racing to 12,698 meters in one hour, a pendingage-group record. Jolene Moore, who won the 2006 USA 5 km Race Walk Championships last week, was the runner-up with 11,828m, and Maria Michta was third, covering 11,587m.
