Chantal Petitclerc named to Commonwealth Games Canada Board of Directors

October 17th 2006, OTTAWA – Athletics Canada would like to congratulate Chantal Petitclerc from Montréal on her appointment to the position of Athlete Representative on the Commonwealth Games Canada Board of Directors.

In early March Chantal was named Canadian flag bearer for the opening ceremonies of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.  Petitclerc would say about being named flag bearer; “It’s so fitting that I would be given this honour at a Commonwealth Games,” she added that, in 2002, the Commonwealth Games included the medal tally of Paralympians; “In Manchester EAD (Elite Athletes with a Disability) results were included in each country’s medal total, this announcement is further proof of how inclusive the Commonwealth Games really are.”

Her impressive athletic resume includes an Olympic gold medal, 2 Commonwealth Games gold medals, 16 Paralympic medals and 4 world records.
