Colorado Springs, Colorado (October 17, 2006) - USA Triathlon has announced that Innsbrook Resort in St. Louis, Mo., will host the 2007 USAT Club National Championship and the USAT Halfmax Long Course Triathlon National Championship.
The Long Course event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 15, and will feature a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. Club Nationals is set for Sunday, Sept. 16 and will include two races: the Octomax 600 meter swim, 14 mile bike, and 3 mile run, and the Quartermax 1000 meter swim, 28 mile bike, and 6.1 mile run.
The Club event will feature a $10,000 prize purse, with $5,000 going to the overall club champion and the remaining $5,000 split among the overall club division champions.
“The clubs are proving that they are the future of our sport,” said USAT Multisport Development Manager Shannon Votruba. “This event will showcase beginners and veterans alike competing in three different distances to bring home the club championship. By scoring each event and encouraging volunteer efforts and membership for points, we can combine competition with teamwork and strategy with the hope of creating an experience that will carry on for years.”
Columbia Multisport, the 2006 Overall Club Champions, will serve as host in 2007 and has provided $5,000 of the prize purse. They have also extended an open invitation to all clubs in the nation in hopes of increasing participation beyond the 900 athletes who participated in 2006.
The weekend is being dubbed the “multisport experience”, with an array of activities planned for all participants, including a Club Village with club tents, welcome celebrations with live bands, special incentives to club members who volunteer on their non-racing days, multisport sessions, sports expo, Club Championship awards ceremony, and more.
