Labrecque Foundation, sponsors of the annual TGL Classic road races in New York and Washington, DC, is auctioning off a guaranteed spot in the 2007 New York City Marathon to benefit the ongoing work of both these organizations in their fight against lung cancer.
If you’ve ever dreamed of running in the New York City Marathon but have been unable to meet the qualifications for guaranteed entrants or have never been picked for the annual open entry lottery, a guaranteed spot in the 2007 New York City Marathon is being auctioned off November 7, 2006 at the annual Silent Auction to benefit Joan’s Legacy, The Joan Scarangello Foundation to Conquer Lung Cancer. Established in 2001, Joan's Legacy is named for Joan Scarangello McNeive, a gifted writer, life-long New Yorker and nonsmoker who died at age 47 in after a valiant nine-month fight with lung cancer. Started by her legion of family and friends, Joan’s Legacy is now a leading resource in the search for new treatments and a cure for lung cancer, and the end to the smoking-related stigma that plagues victims of the lung cancer diagnosis. Joan’s Legacy is committed to fight lung cancer by funding innovative research and increasing awareness of the world’s leading cancer killer, with a special focus on non-smoking-related lung cancer. By the end of 2006, the organizations will have awarded over $2,000,000 in direct research grants to top cancer centers and raised awareness of lung cancer across the United States. The first nonprofit in the U.S. to identify and cultivate lung cancer research with a special focus on non-smoking-related lung cancer, Joan’s Legacy has quickly become recognized as the “venture capital” for lung cancer research in the U.S.
