October 20th 2006, OTTAWA – Athletics Canada is pleased to announce that Hugh Cameron has been named to the position of Endurance Program Coordinator and Coach. Hugh will oversee events beginning at the 800-metres distance up to the marathon, including cross-country and road running.
Martin Goulet, Chief High Performance Officer, welcomes an individual bringing with him a wealth of experience and skills; “I am both thrilled and proud to welcome Mr. Cameron to our technical leadership team. I trust his vast experience, wisdom and leadership skills will be a benefit to our team. Hugh Cameron will now be the main contact for our national team athletes and coaches in the endurance running program.”
Hugh Cameron, former Event Coordinator with Athletics Canada, is a long-time distance instructor who has coached at numerous prestigious international events, including the Olympic Games, World Cross-Country Championships, and the Pan American Games. Hugh was the personal coach of a number of successful athletes such as Silvia Ruegger who was 8th in the marathon at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and is the current Canadian record holder. Under the tutelage of Hugh Cameron, Dave Reid was the former 1500-metres Canadian record holder and a Canadian champion in the 1500, 5000 and 10000-metres.
Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track and field including cross-country running, road running and road racing.
