Athletics: Detroit Free Press.Flagstar Bank Marathon Set for Sunday

Detroit, Mich. – The World Series isn’t the only happening in Detroit during the last week of October. In addition to the tens of thousands of fans expected to transcend on the city for those games, the 29th annual Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon presented by WDIV Local 4 being held on Sunday, October 29 will boost those numbers even higher. Officials of the fastest growing marathon in the country for 5 consecutive years announced today that numbers are up over last year. “We will have over 15,000 runners this year, said Patricia Ball, Director of the Marathon “– making this another record-breaking year for Detroit! We have already reached capacity in our relay event and we will reach capacity in our international half marathon by weeks end. The secret is out about Detroit”

In addition to the growth pattern of success, the marathon has also joined forces with 9 new partners for the 2006 events. Among those partners are:

Armada Oil
Consulate General of Canada

Kar’sNuts is a local Detroit snack food company and its brand new Kar’s Nuts Peanut Car will lead the pack for this year’s race. “Kar’s Nuts is very excited to be sponsoring the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon,” said President Nick Nicolay. “The marathon is a fantastic Detroit tradition, and as a company that began in this community in 1933, we think this is a perfect way for us to show support for our great city. We are a fun company and we think our healthy, delicious snacks will be a big hit with these athletes.”
