Athletics: Dent Defends Asics Bolt Title

Commonwealth Games representative Martin Dent won the Asics Bolt today successfully defending his title.

Dent finished with a convincing win over a strong field, with Olympic Champion Peter Nowill finishing second and former Australian Champion Michael Shelley third.

The Asics Bolt is part of the 24th anniversary Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival which also features the High Tech Health Noosa Criterium and renowned Noosa Triathlon.

Dent was in top form in the steaming conditions after a great build up to the event which included a win at the Bank of Queensland 1500m classic last Thursday.

“Winning here shows I’m in good form and I came home well so I’m really happy with that,” Dent said.

Fellow Commonwealth Games representative Eloise Wellings took out the women’s event despite recent problems with her back and ankles.

Wellings finished with a convincing lead over fellow Commonwealth Games representative Lisa Corrigqan with Canberra girl Emily Brichacek finishing in third place.

Both Dent and Wellings are contenders for the World Championships next year.
