Triathlon: 2007 Ford Ironman Louisville Reaches Capacity

Tarpon Springs, FL (November 6, 2006) – The inaugural Ford Ironman Louisville has reached capacity. Registration opened on October 21, 2006 and closed less than ten days total later. The event is scheduled for August 26, 2007 event and will serve as a qualifier for the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship taking place on October 13 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

"From the very beginning, I knew Ironman was a world-class event that the city of Louisville would embrace. A sell-out within days of opening further demonstrates that we've established a long-term relationship with the perfect sporting event and the perfect partner,” says Interim Executive Director for the Greater Louisville Sports Commission, Jeff Schneider.

An Ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile swim. The 2.4 mile swim for Ford Ironman Louisville will take place in the Ohio River and the bike and run course will take athletes throughout various areas of Louisville to include not only downtown but also Prospect, Clifton, the city of LaGrange, Clarksville, Ind. and Butchertown.
