Athletics: Blue Man Group to Perform Live at New Las Vegas Marathon Start Line

Delivering on the promise to offer participants the world's most entertaining race, organizers of the New Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon have announced that Blue Man Group will play live on the start line at the 2nd annual race on Sunday, December 10, 2006. Blue Man Group will perform the Star Spangled Banner in the signature style that has brought them to international prominence against a spectacular display of pre-dawn fireworks.

Immediately after the starter pistol is fired, Blue Man Group will entertain and energize the field of up to 20,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes with a special performance as they run the electrifying neon corridor of the world famous Las Vegas Strip. Details can be found at: www.lvmarathon.com.

"There is no other marathon in the world that has presented entertainment the caliber of Blue Man Group on the start line," said Race President William A. Burke. "We are planning triple the number of on-course entertainment stations offered at last year's race to create an incredible experience for our participants."

Blue Man Group is a creative organization perhaps best known for their successful theatrical productions which combine comedy, music and multi-media artistry to create a form of entertainment that is totally unique. The Blue Man Group Show at the Venetian in Las Vegas is offering a free ticket upgrade offer from December 1-15 for registered Marathon and Half Marathon participants. For tickets, call 1-800-BlueMan.

Aside from Blue Man Group, other fun elements of the race include the return of the "Only In Vegas" Run Thru Wedding Chapel, where more than 30 running couples from around the world will stop at the mile five Chapel to get married or renew their vows in a live television ceremony performed by Running Reverend William Petersen. Also expected is the largest gathering of running Elvi and "all Elvis - all the time" music on the start and finish lines. Another Vegas touch is the first-ever group of running showgirls. Host Hotel Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino will issue a limited edition collectible New Las Vegas Marathon gambling chip, feature custom-designed blackjack tables with Marathon artwork and the opportunity to bet on the outcome of the race.

The inaugural New Las Vegas Marathon in 2005 attracted 10,773 participants. Organizers expect that number of participants to grow by up to 50% this year with people from all 50 states and 38 nations currently registered for the race.

Early entry fees of $95 for the Marathon and $85 for the Half Marathon are available until November 20, after which the fees will rise to $105 and $95 respectively. For participants in the greater Las Vegas area, a special entry fee of $155 includes the 28-week Las Vegas Roadrunners training program for both the full and half-marathons.

Online registration is open now at LVMarathon.com. Questions? Please call Race Director Terry Collier at (702) 731-1052 or email him at: elvis@newlasvegasmarathon.com.
