Event Named 2006 Community Preservation Award Winner
DENVER - (November 1, 2006) - The Post-News Colorado Colfax Marathon was selected as one of five 2006 Community Preservation Award winners by Historic Denver.
The awards are given annually to select projects, institutions and individuals that have made an exceptional contribution to the preservation of Denver's heritage. According to Historic Denver representatives, these projects exemplify careful consideration of the city's historic fabric and a commitment to the community.
"We are honored to receive this recognition from Historic Denver," said Dr. Jay Gershen, Vice Chancellor for External Affairs at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center and Chairman of the Marathon's Board of Directors. "We see the Marathon as a community event, one that creates a platform for people to think about Colfax Avenue in a way that focuses not only on what it is today, but what it has been in the past and what it can and will be in the future."
The other recipients included Michael Hughes and Karen Brody for the Hughes / Brody home, KEW Reality for restoration on the historic Bauer Building, the Denver area Episcopal Church for the restoration of several local churches and the St. Charles Tow Company for the Lowenstein Theater Tattered Cover restoration.
Councilwoman Jeanne Robb, the Denver Representative to the Marathon's Board of Directors, was also recognized with Historic Denver's Molly Brown Spirit Award for her many contributions to civic life.
