OTTAWA – Athletics Canada is proud to announce that 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m World Champion wheelchair-racer Chantal Petitclerc from Montréal has been short-listed as one of six Canadians nominated for the upcoming 26th annual International Commonwealth Sport Awards.
Petitclerc is nominated for the Outstanding Female Elite Athlete with a Disability award. Other categories include Outstanding Young Achiever (under 18 years of age), Outstanding Male and Female Athlete and Outstanding Male Elite Athlete with a Disability.
Chantal’s season was highlighted by a gold medal in the 800m at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. She served as the Canadian Flag Bearer for the Opening Ceremonies. Chantal also won gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m at the 2006 Canadian Paralympic Championships held in London, Ontario.
The winners will be announced at the Commonwealth Sports Awards Foundation Dinner at the Café Royal in London on November 29th. In all 71 countries nominated athletes for these prestigious awards. The awards reward performances from July 1st 2005 to June 30th 2006.
