PHOENIX, Ariz. (Nov. 13, 2007) - Phoenix Children's Hospital Kids Rock, a P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona event, will celebrate it's third running on Sun., Jan. 14, 2007 and a pre-race kickoff party is being held to help young runners get started on their training.
The official Training Party is set for 10 a.m., Sat., Nov. 18 at Excelencia School (2181 E. McDowell Road). The Training Party is free and open to the public.
Phoenix Children's Hospital Kids Rock is a one-mile fun run for children ages 6-12. This non-competitive, non-timed event is all about having fun and making it to the finish line. Participants can become full marathon finishers by completing a 25.2-mile training program prior to Jan. 14th, or they can just run, walk or jog the one-mile course on race day. Every child is a winner and will be rewarded with an official race number, T-shirt, goodie bag and medal.
The pre-race Training Party is being billed as the first official 'run' of the training program. A stretching station will be offered along with basketball and soccer games, all to the tunes of music provided by Peak 98.7FM.
A host of activities will be available at the Training Party and special guests will be on hand to greet kids. The Arizona Cardinals' Big Red, the Phoenix Suns Gorilla and the NHL Coyotes' Howler will be there along with Smokey the Bear and various Star Wars characters. Healthy snacks and beverages from Shamrock Farms will be provided.
Two grand prizes will be raffled off during the festivities: a bicycle and helmet to one lucky child and a one hour joy flight over Phoenix to an adult in attendance.
Registration for Phoenix Children's Hospital Kids Rock and the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & ˝ Marathon will be available on site at the Nov. 18 Training Party.
