Athletics: Athletics Canada announces 2007 IAAF Worlds Selection Criteria

November 15th 2006, OTTAWA – Athletics Canada (AC) announced today the selection criteria for the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Athletics which will take place in Osaka, Japan August 25 to September 2

Les Gramantik, Athletics Canada Head Coach speaks of the importance of the last major championships in the four-year cycle; "The most important event of the 2007 calendar is the World Athletic Championships in Osaka, Japan. We have chosen a selection process developed to meet our objective of selecting athletes capable of finishing in the top 16 or top half of their fields.” Gramantik adds that the objective is to select a team of athletes who are capable of achieving increasingly better performances on the road to Beijing; “Our results from Osaka will allow us to evaluate our athlete’s preparation heading into the 2008 Olympic Games."

Athletics Canada’s National Team Committee is responsible for the implementation of these criteria and for all decisions relating to the selection of the Canadian team at the 2007 World Championships.

2007 AC World Championships Qualifying Standards
