The Seagate Elite 5-K, a companion event to the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot 5-K and 10-K schedued for Thursday in San Jose, Calif., has released their elite fields. A special $5000 bonus for a new USA 5-K is on offer.

Leading the men's field is Dan Browne, 31, from Beaverton, Ore. The 2004 Olympian at the marathon distance is ramping up for his 2007 season after enduring a knee injury last year.

"I'm definitely hoping it will kick off a successful winter racing season for me," said Browne through a press release. The West Point graduate, who is coached by Alberto Salazar, has a track personal best of 13:16.02 set in Heusden in 2004. "I'm healthy, building great mileage and core strength, and getting in 16 miles a day."

The open USA record for 5-K is 13:24 set by Marc Davis at the Carlsbad 5000 back in 1996.

Browne will have his work cut out for him because USA 20-K record-holder, Ryan Hall, is entered in the field. Also in the hunt for victory should be Blake Boldon, who won the race last year, Bolota Asmerom, Gabe Jennings and Kenyan Josphat Boit.

Sara Hall, Ryan's wife, looks like the favorite in the women's race after her convincing victory at the Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile on Sept. 30. Her top challenger will be Magdalene Mukunzi of Kenya, who ran 32:30 at the Youngstown Peace Race on Oct. 22 and who kicked down Asmae Leghzaoui at the NTELOS 8-K in Richmond, Va., on Nov. 11, setting a course record of 25:24.

Prize money will be paid three deep for men and women: $2,500, $1,500, and $500.
