Duluth, Minn. - Grandma's Marathon has named Bob Gustafson as the new public relations director for the nonprofit organization.
Gustafson will be responsible for planning, implementing and directing all media relations activities involving Grandma’s Marathon. He will also act as the organization’s official spokesperson. A 1992 graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth, Gustafson spent the past five years as a marketing specialist for Cellular One. Previously, he worked for the Duluth-Superior Dukes Baseball Club, KDLH-TV and KDAL Radio.
Gustafson replaces Laura Wright, who is now the organization’s director of event and program development. In her new position, Wright will focus on the creation and implementation of new events and programs as well as develop and improve existing Grandma's Marathon programs. Wright had been public relations director since March 2000.
Grandma's Marathon is the 13th largest marathon in the nation. What started as a small road race consisting of 150 runners has grown to be a weekend running festival featuring Grandma's Marathon, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the William A. Irvin 5K, and attracting over 17,000 runners from across the globe. The 31st annual Grandma's Marathon is June 16, 2007.
