Athletics: SkirtSports Becomes Title Sponsor for RRCA Women’s Distance Festival Events

The RRCA welcomes SkirtSports as the Title Sponsor for the RRCA Women’s Distance Festival for 2007. Launched in 2005 by professional triathlete and 2004 Ironman Wisconsin winner, Nicole DeBoom, Skirt sports is a revolutionary performance clothing company designed for active women that want function as well as fashion out of their fitness wear. SkirtSports was founded with the goal of promoting positive body image and fun in fitness with an emphasis on supporting women in sports. Through this partnership, SkirtSports will provide a title sponsorship package to six Women’s Distance Festival events in 2007.

“We are so excited to announce SkirtSports as the Title Sponsor for the RRCA Women’s Distance Festival events in 2007”, remarked Jean Knaack, RRCA executive director. “SkirtSports is committed to promoting positive body image for women and girls through participation in sports. Women’s participation in the sport of running is the cornerstone of the WDF events and makes the sponsorship a perfect pairing.”

The title package will include race numbers, race bags, a banner, product coupons for participants, product for premiums, and a special gift to all finishers from SkirtSports. Through a competitive bidding process running from November 2006 through January 15, 2007, representatives from SkirtSports and the RRCA will select six deserving events for the SkirtSports Title Sponsorship Package. The winners will be announced by January 31, 2007. To be eligible for the title package, the events must meet at least the following criteria:

  • Be a nonprofit member of the RRCA
  • Provide an event that is a women’s only race or has a women’s only start or wave as part of a larger event
  • Agree to use the RRCA’s Official Technology partner, Active.com, for registering runners. Furthermore, the event must be willing to share their entrants’ contact information with SkirtSports for marketing purposes if the entrant agrees to be included on a sponsor’s mailing list.
  • Purchase race shirts from SkirtSports, if the race provides for a race shirt
  • Donate a portion of the race’s net proceeds ($100 minimum) to a nonprofit organization that works on women’s issues such as health, violence prevention/protection, education/advocacy, etc.
  • Draw at least 100 participants to the event
  • Agree to allow SkirtSports to be the exclusive women’s apparel sold at the event if SkirtSports wishes to sell apparel at the event

Events not selected for the SkirtSports Title Sponsorship package can still receive race benefits. SkirtSports will provide printable discount coupons that race directors can share with all participants in their race bags. RRCA Women’s Distance Festival SkirtSports numbers and race bags can be purchased by all WDF events not receiving the title sponsorship package.

In addition, to shine the national spotlight on the SkirtSports RRCA Women’s Distance Festival Title Events and all WDF events, Her Sports + Fitness magazine will continue as the 2007 Women’s Distance Festival media partner. Her Sports + Fitness will provide printable discount coupons that race directors can share with all participants in their race bags. In addition, Her Sports + Fitness will provide a free magazine copy to each participant. As featured in the Active

Buzz in the November issue of Her Sports + Fitness, they will continue to share the Active Buzz about WDF events in 2007.
