Athletics: Five Cities In The Hunt For 2011, 2013 World Championships

Five cities will be in the hunt to host to the 2011 and 2013 World Championships in Athletics, the IAAF, track and field's international governing body, announced today. Four cities -- Brisbane, Australia, Daegu, South Korea, Goteborg, Sweden, and Moscow-- have bid to host the 2011 edition of the championships while Barcelona, joins Brisbane, Goteborg and Moscow in the run to host the 2013 championships. With Berlin hosting the 2009 edition, Daegu and Brisbane appear as the front runners for 2011 before the championships are likely to return to Europe in 2013. Following a series of evaluation visits, the hosts for both championships will be selected and announced at the next meeting of the IAAF Council in Mombasa, Kenya, on March 27, 2007, following the World Cross Country Championships.
