For the second straight year Triathlon Canada is pleased to announce it has hit double digits in terms of athletes receiving funding from the Canadian Government. In 2007, 11 triathletes will receive funding. The breakdown is 8 senior cards and 3 development cards – exactly the same as it was in 2006.
In partnership with Sport Canada and the Athlete Assistance Program, the following triathletes will receive monthly financial support and tuition credits to support their training.
Senior International Cards: (SR1 & SR2)
- Simon Whitfield (6th at World Championships in 2005 – SR2)
- Lauren Groves (4th at World Championships in 2006 – SR1)
Senior Domestic Cards:
- Carolyn Murray (World Cup Ranking #43)
- Jill Savege (Injury Provision)
- Brent McMahon (Injury Provision)
1st Year Senior Domestic Cards (C1):
- Kathy Tremblay (World Cup Ranking #32)
- Paul Tichelaar (23rd at the World Championships in 2006)
- Kyle Jones ( World Cup Ranking #49)
Development Cards:
- Colin Jenkins (U23 National Champion)
- Alicia Kaye (U23 National Champion)
- Lisa Mensink (3rd in Continental Cup race in Ixtapa)
Athletes receiving a Senior International Card or a Senior Domestic Card will receive monthly stipends of $1,500.00. Athletes receiving a 1st Year Senior Domestic Card (C1) or a Development Card will receive monthly stipends of $900.00.
Triathlon Canada is the National Federation for the sport of Triathlon and Duathlon in Canada.
