Athletics: Coward named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Jacquelyn Coward has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the women's 55-meter hurdles at the 28th Ed Temple Classic in Nashville, Tenn.

A sophomore at Knoxville West High School, Coward sprinted to the finish in 7.67 seconds, the fastest time by a high school athlete since 1993 and #4 on the all-time list. She also was the runner-up in the women's 400m with her time of 56.50.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

2007 USATF Athlete of the Week Winners: January 2, Thomas Morgan; January 9, Jacquelyn Coward.
