Athletics: Prize Money And New Course Announced For Prague Half-Marathon

Race director and elite athlete coordinator Paolo Ottone said that several improvements have been made for the 9th edition of the event scheduled for Saturday, March 24. Ottone announced a total prize money purse of 15,200 euros, plus bonuses for event records (1:01:07 and 1:10:08 for men and women, respectively) and fast times on the men's side (see attached sheet for complete details). He also said that the course had been changed a bit for several reasons. "The course has being [sic] changed," Ottone wrote in an e-mail message. "The start is still from the world famous Charles Bridge but the finish has been moved to the Rudolfinum Theatre, to have bigger space since this year. The participants will be more than 5000 (last year 4800)." In addition to providing more space, the Rudolfinum Theatre finish will provide more protection from potential flooding. Last year's event was nearly canceled because the Moldova River had risen due to heavy rains and the finish area was under water. Ottone also said the new course would be faster. "Our aim is to run under 60:00 minutes in the men's race," he wrote. Last year's winners were Kenyans Stephen Kibiwott (1:01:15) and Caroline Kwambai who set the above-mentioned course record.
