Event again hosts USA 15K Championship; $65,000 prize purse
The official Gate River Run entry forms and training schedules are now available for the 30th running of Jacksonville's signature running event slated for Saturday, March 10, 2007, announced Race Director Doug Alred. More than 15,000 people annually take to the streets in Jacksonville's largest participatory sporting event which includes four popular races through some of Jacksonville's most scenic neighborhoods.
In addition, for the 14th consecutive year, Gate River Run is the home of the USA 15K Championship, which attracts a top field of American runners vying for more than $65,000 in prize money. For the fourth straight year, the "Equalizer Bonus" will also award $5000 to the first male or female to cross the finish line with the top-seeded women beginning 5 minutes before the men. The 5 minute "head start" is based on the time differential of the U.S. 15K records: 42:22 for the men (Todd Williams, 1995) and 47:15 for the women (Deena Drossin (now Kastor), 2003), both set on the Gate River Run course.
This year will feature a large post-race 30th birthday celebration including 30 exciting giveaway items and the largest birthday cake in Jacksonville's history.
The Runner's World 'Top 100 Event' offers something for everyone: the Gate River Run 15K / USA Championship; the Florida Times-Union 5K (3.1 miles) Run & Walk for Charity; adidas Junior River Run (1 mile) for children 13 and under; Diaper Dashes for up to age 4 and a three-day MPS Group Fitness Expo. All events begin and end at the Jacksonville Sports Complex.
On-line registration and information is available at Gate-RiverRun.com, and a complete training guide is also available on-line. For additional information, call (904) 731-1900.
