Athletics: New Movie to Profile Elite Distance Runners

Focus on “Super Bowl of Running”

Seattle – The production team behind “What It Takes”, the hit documentary which followed four Ironman triathletes, is at it again. This time, they’re covering distance runners, and 5 American stars in particular, in a movie called “Showdown”.

“Showdown” takes viewers behind the scenes with Abdi Abdirahman, Alan Culpepper, Meb Keflizighi, Dathan Ritzenhein, and Jorge Torres. These runners have won world-class honors with an Olympic medal, numerous national titles, and a long string of NCAA and high-school championship titles. Now they come together in head-to-head competition, as the cameras capture their thoughts and feelings.

Shot on location in Houston, San Diego, and Tucson, as well as in Edinburgh, Scotland, the movie’s action will culminate this weekend in Boulder, Colorado, at the 2007 US Cross-Country Championship. The DVD will be released later this spring in partnership with USA Track & Field (USATF), and feature richly cinematic “look and feel”. It will show in 16:9 widescreen format, with high-definition footage rarely seen before in the sport.

More details, including a trailer for the movie, are available now at www.ShowdownRace.com. The 2-minute trailer can be seen at www.ShowdownRace.com/videos.php.
