Athletics: ING New York City Marathon Opens Entry Process

Last year 93,000 people applied for entry. "Building on the success of last year's ING New York City Marathon, the 2007 event is not to be missed and features the greatest doubleheader distance running has seen," said New York Road Runners president and CEO, Mary Wittenberg, refering to the U.S. Men's Olympic Marathon Trials and the ING New York City Marathon being held on consecutive days, Nov. 3 and 4. Applications for entry through the unique NYRR lottery system from applicants with a U.S. address will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 1, 2007, and the drawing will take place in mid-June. Applications from international lottery applicants and all applicants eligible for guaranteed entry will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2007; the international lottery drawing will take place in May. Entry fees for runners accepted through the lottery (as well as guaranteed entrants) will be $90 for New York Road Runners members and $120 for non-members. International entrants will be charged $175. The 2006 edition of the race, won by Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil and Jelena Prokopcuka of Latvia, recorded 37,866 finishers, making it the largest marathon in history.
