Athletics: USA Track and Field Foundation Announces Youth Grant Recipients, $70,000 in Additional Funding

INDIANAPOLIS - The USA Track & Field Foundation awarded several grants during its February board meeting in New York City.

The following clubs/organizations were awarded $1,500 grants: Training Ground Track Club (TN) - coaching education, first aid/CPR certification, throws equipment. Superior Track & Field Club (CO) - t-shirts, track rental, trophies, equipment. Peak Performance Track Club (LA)- equipment. Special Forces Unlimited, Inc. (VA) - transportation, box lunches for outlying youth. Quincy Track Club (MA) - 25 elementary school hurdles. Hospitality House Youth Directions (MN) - javelin, shot and discus equipment.

The Foundation also announced that $30,000 has been approved for additional youth funding in 2007. Interested youth clubs/organizations are directed to the USATF.org/foundation website for more information and application materials. Please note: Applications for youth grants that have already been received will be kept on file and receive funding consideration through 2007.

USATF's Be A Champion program was awarded a $20,000 grant in support of its initiative aimed at educating youth, parents, educators and coaches about the positive results that come from leading a physically active, drug-free and healthy lifestyle. More than 40 elite athletes in 36 USATF supported events have participated in the Be A Champion program since October 2004.

Additionally, a $20,000 grant was awarded to USATF's Mark Springer Travel Grant program. The Springer grants help clubs offset the expenses related to bringing athletes to USATF national championships, including the Junior Olympics and Youth Track & Field Championship meets. The $20,000 grant matched the support provided to clubs directly through USATF.
