Athletics: Grandma’s Marathon Field Nearly Full

Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon Registration Closed

Duluth, Minn.: Time is running out for runners looking to participate in the 31st annual Grandma’s Marathon on June 16. There are only 450 spots remaining in the field, which has a limit of 9,500. The 26.2-mile event has reached its capacity for 12 consecutive years. Grandma's Marathon begins at 7:30 a.m. near Two Harbors, Minn. and travels a course along Scenic Highway 61, through downtown Duluth and finishes in Canal Park.

An official Grandma’s Marathon entry form can be downloaded and printed at www.grandmasmarathon.com. Entry forms will also be available at the annual pre-race seminar, Gearing Up for Grandma’s, scheduled for Saturday, March 10 at 9 a.m. The event will be held at the Hearthstone Café in the Duluth Clinic’s new 1st Street Building (420 East 1st Street). Minnesotan Carrie Tollefson, a 2004 U.S. Olympian, will be the featured speaker.

Meanwhile, registration is officially closed for the 17th annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. Entry forms are no longer being accepted for the race, also scheduled on June 16. Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon registration is conducted via a lottery system in which applicants are selected through three random drawings. Confirmation cards will be sent to all registered participants within four to six weeks. Checks for entries that were not accepted will be returned to the applicant within two to three weeks.

During Grandma’s Marathon weekend, more than 17,000 athletes are expected to compete in Grandma's Marathon, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the William A. Irvin 5K.
