Samuel Wanjiru lowered his own world record for the half-marathon today in The Hague, running 58:35 to win the 33rd City-Pier-City Half-Marathon.
His previous record of 58:53 (still subject to IAAF ratification) was set on Feb. 9, this year at Ras al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates.
After three kilometers Wanjiru broke away from the field and ran on his own against the clock. Compatriot Solomon Bushendich finished second in 1:00:13 eqalling his personal best, while another Kenyan, Francis Kiprop, finished third in 1:00:17.
The women's race was won by Kenyan Hilda Kibet in 1:09:43.
