Athletics (RWire): Whole Foods Market Santa Monica Classic Celebrates the Environment and Benefits Heal The Bay

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - The Whole Foods Market Santa Monica Classic - slated for Sunday, May 6, 2007 - offers participants an exciting run through Santa Monica on 5K and 10K courses and the opportunity to help keep Southern California's precious coastal waters safe and clean.

Participants will enjoy the 5K and 10K courses that begins along Santa Monica Beach, continues up Main Street, Ocean Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard and finishes at the world famous Santa Monica Pier. New this year is the Corporate Challenge 10K in which three-person coed teams compete for prizes in industry categories. All proceeds from the event will benefit Heal The Bay, a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to making Santa Monica Bay and Southern California coastal waters and watersheds safe, healthy and clean for people and marine life.

All participants will receive Nike dri-FIT running t-shirts. Highlights from the event will include the Whole Foods Market Recovery Lounge, a special interactive exhibit from the Heal the Bay Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and the Nike Runners' Service Station, which services the community with essential running necessities. In addition, Nike's community led running group - Nike Club Run LA - hosted training runs as the official training program for the race.
