Athletics: 2007 IAAF World Athletics Day celebrated in Surrey, BC

OTTAWA – Athletics Canada is thrilled to announce that 2007 World Athletics Day, the IAAF’s (International Association of Athletics Federations) annual worldwide festival of youth, will be celebrated in Surrey, British Columbia today.

Hosted by the Ocean Athletics Track and Field Club, the event will take place at South Surrey Athletic Park and is expected to attract over 350 athletes. A training clinic will begin at 1:00pm covering a wide range of athletic topics such as the steeplechase, throws, block starts and race walking. The competition will begin at 2:00pm.

The IAAF’s annual worldwide festival of youth, which was inaugurated in1996 remains as popular as ever, with 157 of the 212 IAAF Member Federations taking part this year.

Athletics Canada is the national sport governing body for the sport of track and field including cross-country running, road running and road racing.
