New Braunfels, Texas - May 15, 2007 – The Rookie Triathlon officially kicked off the Austin portion of the Texas Tri Series this past weekend. “The Rookie” is the second event in the Texas Tri Series (www.texastriseries.com).
Over 700 athletes and their families were present at the Texas Ski Ranch to participate in this local favorite race that has turned into one of the largest events in the region. Sunny skies and near perfect temperatures provided for a 100% finisher rate and a fantastic finish line carnival with games, free food, ice cream, drinks and music.
The Rookie is a super sprint (300m swim, 11.1 mile bike, and 2 mile run) designed for beginners, but it typically attracts a very strong elite field. This year was no different as five pros and most of the region’s age group elite turned out to show their speed. Joseph Moore led the field out of the water, but it was local pro James Bonney who took command of the race on the bike. Bonney backed up his stellar bike with a strong run to take the victory. For the women, Desiree Ficker led from gun to finish, and then stuck around all day to give away prizes and hang out with participants.
This event was produced by Jack and Adam's Bicycles in Austin, Texas. More info on Jack and Adam's Bicycles can be found at www.jackandadams.com.
