May 29, 2007 – The organizers of the four year old Mississauga Marathon presented by Canon announced today a new Half Marathon and 10K race in Oakville. The first annual Oakville Half Marathon will kick off the fall running calendar with both races taking place on Labour Day; Monday September 3, 2007.
Highlighting the Town of Oakville’s beautiful waterfront, quaint neighbourhoods and spectacular harbours both the Half Marathon and 10K will start and finish in Oakville’s Coronation Park and provide participants an opportunity to jump into the fall marathon season.
“The course is a beautiful, shaded route, with an early race start for optimal running conditions” says Joe Hewitt, Race Director. “For participants, it will be a great race to test summer training or prepare for a full fall marathon. We are thrilled to bring this event to the streets of Oakville and are certain that the fast course will produce some personal best times and great memories for our runners.”
A one-day Runners Expo and Post Race Breakfast are also scheduled as part of the weekend of activities. A separate walking category ensures that participants of all abilities can compete in this new race.
Half marathon running events have become ever popular in the last five years and the Oakville Half Marathon is expected to bring a great number of runners from across the GTA and beyond to the Town of Oakville for this annual race.
Registration is already open online at www.oakvillehalfmarathon.com. Participants can also phone 905-949-1910 ext. 235 for more information.
Pledges raised from the event will support the Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada and the Oakville YMCA.
Partnership opportunities are still available and interested parties are encouraged to contact Landmark Sport Group, the event organizer for more information.
