Britain are sending three reigning World Champions to the BG Triathlon World Cup in Madrid this weekend
Tim Don will return to World Cup racing in Spain having suffered several set backs and injuries in early season training. Don, who won the ITU World Championships in Switzerland last summer, last completed a standard distance triathlon in January, at the regional South African Championships; however clocked 29:31 for 10km at the Great Manchester Run two weeks ago.
He will be joined on the start line by World Under 23 Champion, Will Clarke, who will go into the Madrid race full of confidence having won the Strathclyde Park Corus Elite Series competition last weekend in Scotland. Stuart Hayes finished just behind Clarke at the Corus race and is also in good form. Richard Stannard, the World Aquathlon Champion, will be looking to add to his run of form and more Olympic Games qualifying points.
Britain's female competitors comprise of Michelle Dillon, who was second at the World Duathlon Championships two weeks ago, and the two under 23s, Rosie Clarke and Vanessa Raw. Clarke, the sister of Will, has had a recent run of good results including a fourth place at the European Cup race in Italy, and will be making her World Cup debut. Raw, who broke through on the international scene in 2006, is returning from injury and will be looking for a solid start to get her season underway.
