Athletics: 14th Annual William A. Irvin 5K Results

(Duluth, Minn.) More than one thousand runners participated in tonight’s 14th annual William A. Irvin 5K ? the first of three races scheduled for the 31st annual Grandma’s Marathon weekend. Greg Liebl, 21, of Montevideo, Minn., ran away from the rest of the 1,044-person field finishing in 15:17, nearly half a minute faster than Dane Moreland, 22, of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., who posted a second-place time of 15:42. In the women’s division, 15-year-old Laura Hughes, of Mankato, Minn., outlasted two-time William A. Irvin 5K defending champion Michelle Oman, also of Mankato. Hughes, who placed third at the same event last year, was victorious in a time of 17:50. Oman, 33, finished 11 seconds later in 18:01.
