Athletics: IAAF World Youth Championships begin Wednesday

OTTAWA - The fifth IAAF World Youth Championships begin tomorrow July 11 in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, concluding July 15th.

The last World Youth Championships were held in 2005 in Marrakesh, Morocco. The world youth championships were established in 1999 by IAAF President Prime Nebiolo. The championships are a stepping stone where athletes can compete and gain world experience for future competitions at both the junior and senior level.

Not only the top performers at the World Youth Championships go on and become successful, the event is often a preview of the international stage for young competitors. Many athletes who have participated in the World Youth Championships have had great success as their careers progress.
