19 hours after opening of the online-registration the Kärnten IRONMAN Austria is sold out.
Obviously the IRONMAN Austria lived up to the participants’ expectations as athletes were already queuing at the offline-registration booth in the IRONMAN City on Monday morning after the race. This offline registration gave the 2007 competitors a chance to register in advance and within 3 hours 300 athletes were registered.
The online registration opened at midnight on Monday and by 0:20 am 120 entries had been counted. In the first hour 11 000 hits to the registration system were listed.
Selling out of IRONMAN Austria in 19 hours means a new record but isn’t completely unexpected. Requests for entries to next year’s race starting coming in months ago, but athletes had wait until Monday after the event to enter.
The good news is that there are still several possibilities to get a slot for the race. The official travelling partners “Nirvana Europe“ and “Endurance Sports” are still have contingents.
The “Finishline”-program, that is organized by TRIANGLE institute and prepares athletes for the IRONMAN in a ten months period, guarantees a slot for the IRONMAN Austria.
And lastly, those registering for Monaco IRONMAN 70.3 (September 2nd) between July 11th and August 2nd stand the chance of winning a slot for IRONMAN Austria 2008 in a lucky draw.
Two times winner Marino Vanhoenacker has already confirmed his participation for next year. “I’m coming back to win the race again.” says the Belgian. All other participants are now too fixed on July 13th 2008 where they will again here the words “You are an IRONMAN!”
For those who couldn’t get a slot for IRONMAN Austria the possibility to start at IRONMAN France in Nice is still available. The race takes place on June 22nd and promises to be the same quality as IRONMAN Austria. The IRONMAN at the French Riviera is organized by TRIANGLE as well and already had1600 athletes competing in 2007.
