Athletics: Close Finish Highlights Inaugural Grandma's Minnesota Mile St. Paul

Grandma's Minnesota Mile St. Paul Results

(St. Paul, Minn.) Four seconds separated the top four runners in the Grandma's Minnesota Mile St. Paul feature race Wednesday night at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Brad Lowery of Bloomington, Minn. held off all challengers to win the inaugural race in four minutes, ten seconds. Lowery, 24, edged Ryan Kleimenhagen, 25, of Minneapolis by one second to earn first place and $1,250.

Jenelle Deatherage, 29, earned the women's division title finishing in 4:46, three seconds faster than Katie McGregor's 4:49. Deatherage, McGregor, Lowery and Kleimenhagen are all Team USA Minnesota teammates.

This new Grandma's Minnesota Mile St. Paul event featured four separate divisions ? Grandma's Minnesota Mile, St. Paul Mile, All City Mile and Nike Kids Mile (see top finishers below). For complete results, visit www.grandmasmarathon.com.

The Grandma's Minnesota Mile St. Paul is the first of two races in the new Grandma's Minnesota Mile series. The second event in the series, Grandma's Minnesota Mile Duluth, will be run in downtown Duluth on Sunday, September 9.

The first 250 people who pre-registered for the Grandma's Minnesota Mile St. Paul received a guaranteed entry into the 2008 Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon next June in Duluth. The same opportunity is being offered during the Grandma's Minnesota Mile Duluth pre-registration period which begins today. Entry forms are available to download by visiting www.grandmasmarathon.com.

The Grandma's Minnesota Mile Series is presented by Sam's Club and Nike.
